What's In the News
July 20, 2023
Team Biden- Harris had a stunning fundraising number this quarter. Raising a historic total of over $72 million cash with $77 million cash on hand. This included grassroots support and enthusiasm for the President's reelection campaign.
New York appeals court ordered the state's congressional maps to be redrawn, siding with the Democrats' case that could give the party a fresh chance to tilt several of the country's most contested battleground House races. This decision, if upheld, would allow Democrats to shift as many as six GOP-held Congressional seats in the Dem direction. The court ordered the state's bipartisan redistricting commission to restart immediately, which effectively will give the Democrat-dominated State legislature the final say over the 26 House seats for the remainder of the decade! Republicans vowed to take this to the state's highest Court of Appeals. However, if this ruling stands, new map changes should make it almost impossible for districts; NY-03 (R) George Santos on Long Island, Queens, NY-17 (R) Mike Lawler in Hudson Valley where TSMOW has endorsed Democrat Liz Whitmer Gereghty, NY-19 (R) Marc Molinaro in Hudson Valley, or NY-04 (R) Anthony D'Esposito to get reelected. The Appeals Court has moved leftward since the last decision on these maps and could make the difference here to send Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to become Leader of the House Democrat Majority in 2024. Stay tuned for updates...
Several of our TSMOW members attended an event in mid-July with Vice President Kamala Harris, hosted by Tri-State MOW member Charles Myers. In a room with an intimate audience, the VP was extraordinary, personable, smart, exhibited leadership, and excellent new messaging. Harris shared that in this last year, she met with over 100 heads of state from around the world helping strengthen U.S. relations abroad. She shared that world leaders have told her how thankful and relieved they are that this administration is in the White House. Kamala Harris, who made history as the first woman, the first Black person, and the first person of South Asian descent as the vice president, also flexed power last week in her role as the Vice President by matching the record for most tie-breaking votes in the Senate. At the fundraiser, she also touted accomplishments she and President Biden have achieved including 800,000 new manufacturing jobs, policy developments achieved including semiconductors, and lower-cost insulin and other prescription drugs. Harris remembered where she was the day the Supreme Court issued its opinion in the Dobbs decision turning back abortion rights, gearing up the reelection campaign saying, "We rise to these moments of challenge, and that's what we will continue to do. She noted that in places where abortion has been on the ballot, abortion rights advocates have prevailed. To quote VP Harris, " I would say, early stage, we are gearing up, because we know we have to do. We know we need to remind each other that we are in this together, and we know what is at stake". "And we know what we are fighting for, the fundamental foundational principles that make us proud to be Americans," she said.
Tri-State MOW is proud of our Vice President, and we fully support Kamala Harris and Joe Biden's re-election in 2024!
Long Island Chapter Kick-Off- Tri-State MOW PAC expanded again, we formed a new chapter on June 27th in Old Westbury, Long Island, purposely in the Congressional House district, in NY-03, to help build a new network of women ( and men) members and donors to organize in helping to take back the district we lost in the House in 2022. Senator Jacky Rosen, Nevada was our guest speaker, attended by over 30 potential new members. Please let Judy Baum, Co-Chair of the new chapter if you have friends, sisters, daughters, nieces, or college roommates in the area to invite to our next event: [email protected].
South Florida Chapter: Tri-State Maxed-Out Women + has joined the effort with Planned Parenthood of Florida for Florida Protecting Freedom. TSMOW is helping in the effort to get the 990,000 signatures from Florida registered voters, permanent residents of Florida that are needed to sign the petition form to qualify to get the Constitutional Amendment on the November 2024 ballot to overturn the horrendous new 6-week abortion ban signed in the middle of the night this past April by Gov De Santis. TSMOW has joined the coalition effort with Florida's Women's Freedom Coalition and PPSENFL, spearheaded by CEO, Alexandra Mandado, who met with our chapter in Delray this spring, and WFC PAC founder Rep Donna Shalala, and Vice Mayor of Pinecrest, Anna Hochkammer. Excited to announce that our good friend, former Rep Val Demings, is now on the trail helping to raise funds for this important project. When this initiative is on the 2024 ballot and gets 60% of the vote needed to pass, this will be a game changer for Florida. If you are a registered Florida voter here is the information and the petition form that you can print and sign: For the ballot amendment petition, you can either sign the petition online or fill out the form and mail it to the designated address located in the "Sponsor's Information" section of the petition. Instructions on submitting the ballot amendment here: https://floridiansprotectingfreedom.com/petition/.
